She’s back on the blog, and this time, it’s personal. I mentioned in a previous blog post about my experience in Jen Sincero’s Nonfiction Book Proposal In A Week Bootcamp, and how I was floored by her aprroach and style, the materials provided, the caliber and encouragement of the group,¬†as well as what I actually got accomplished. What You Need To Do To Write That Book Proposal, Get that Agent & A Big Fat Advance

Sunday, March 6th, 2011

I know I’ve been a little M.I.A. on the blog the past couple weeks. I have a good reason. I have a great reason. I have just finished my first nonfiction book proposal…in only ONE WEEK! I found a bad ass bootcamp led by the big bad ass herself, Jen Sincero. I have worked with mentors and writing coaches in the past, but this was my first foray into a group coaching experience with a deadline that seriously had me living outside my comfort zone. However, since I promised myself I’d do big things like that this year, I rose to the challenge.

Well, by day three I knew I’d never settle for anything less from myself or a coaching experience again. Here’s my testimonial I did for Jen that day. I absolutely would do one every day if I wasn’t busy finishing my proposal. Here’s me, sans glamour, talking turkey about the bootcamp:

Here are the things I learned:

1. In Order to Live Big, You Must Act Big — Expect big things from yourself and those around you.

2. Declare Your Intent — Loudly and publicly.

3. Hold Yourself and Others Accountable — Set a deadline and stick to it. We used a private Facebook group and Twitter chats as part of the energy-lifting, tool sharing experience in addition to Jen’s intense and informative packets/workbooks and calls. They helped my A.D.D. ass stay on task and in the game.

4. If There’s a Book Inside You, Jen Can Get It Out — Jen’s energy, down-to-earth approach, ability to let herself and others use “colorful” vocabulary when no other words will do, use of mad tools both online and off are unprecedented. I now have at least three books arm wrestling their way out of me, and I can’t wait to share my journey of finding an agent and getting published with you…because I know I will. I own that.

I don’t get any kickbacks from promoting Jen or her amazing Book Proposal in a Week Bootcamp. What I do get — I get to share with you an amazing experience I had. You know you have a book in you. Let it out.
